Mixed Blessings

26 May 2011

Having received some great feedback after publishing a poem at the beginning of the month, the same client has shared another one with us and we think this one is FANTASTIC ......tell us what you think

My Dad is black my Mum is white,
Why should that give you the right,
To call me names and put me down
I'm just like you, except Im brown.
I have feelings too you see
It hurts when people say of me
There she is, half and half
and then they have a good old laugh
I may be half and half outside
But that only gives me pride
I share two backgrounds of culture and race
I have a beautiful golden face
My tastes are varied, peas and rice
or fish and chips without any spice
Reggae music I enjoy
I can dig a beat like any black boy
But any music makes me dance
And if I get just half a chance
I'll show you how I strut my stuff
And you dont have to act so tough
We can dance together and have some fun
Black and white, everyone
We can live together as sisters and brothers
Whatever the colour of our fathers and mothers
We're all God's children underneath
Whatever our colour, creed or belief,
He would want us to live as one
And follow the example of his son
Unselfish and caring to all makind
If you do this you will surely find
That the colour of my skin wont matter to you
The person that I am will shine right through
And when you become a friend to me
You can say to the others "cant you see?
She has something to say out loud"
And I will stand up tall and proud.
Now I have your attention at last
I'd like to state Im not half-caste
When I was born, God looked down and smiled
At me, his little mixed-race child
